Ikaw At Ako (You and Me) – Johnoy Danao

I know I post a lot of Korean and other Asian music on my blog, but that does not mean I have lost touch with the true blue OPM sound. So I am posting another one.

I actually came across this song from a wedding video posted on youtube. And I love this song so much that I wanted to share it! It’s Johnoy Danao‘s Ikaw At Ako (translation: You and Me).

I am a sucker for Pinoy Acoustic music. And when I heard this I loved it on the spot. And I love it even more when I read the lyrics. It is so far the best Filipino wedding song, by mt standards at least. The melody of the song is subtle which blends perfectly with the voice of the singer. I love that what you hear is just the voice of the singer and the strums of his guitar. Because of that it gives the best romantic feeling. Another thing is, I am a shameless hopeless romantic. The first time I listened to this song, it made me cry. I wish I would also have a love story that is being described in the song (especially in a world like ours now).

Naiisip Mo Ba – David DiMuzio (MV)

This is indeed a first! I mean this is the first time that I’ve seen an American who has released a Filipino song in the Philippines! And I am happy.

This is the song Naiisip Mo Ba by David DiMuzio.

It’s a great song. I especially like how he blended English with the Tagalog. Though, the tagalog is only heard in the chorus, I liked that it’s sung by a foreigner but you can really hear the tagalog part.

Yes, mga kababayan, he is an American! According to his facebook page, he is from Charlotte, North Carolina but he has recorded and wrote several songs for artists such as Nyoy Volante, Mark Bautista, and Top Suzara (Freestyle). You can check out his facebook page to know more about him.

Wow I am very impressed with him. I actually saw his video because I was searching for covers of Lagi (Kiss Jane). And thus I found this video.

It’s a very good cover I think.

Gonna be looking out for more of his tracks! I’m loving his music! 🙂

Makapiling Ka – Spongecola

It’s been awhile since I posted a Filipino song on my blog.

I recently heard this on the radio and I thought I would share it. This song is called Makapiling Ka (To Be With You) by Spongecola.

They are one my favorite Filipino band. Well they don’t really have the best vocals in the OPM scene, but their songs’ lyrics are absolutely well thought of and are well written. Their music is also very easy to sing a long with and very easy to play.

The songs talks about a person longing for the day he/she will be together with his/her beloved. This song is written like a poem and you can feel that whoever wrote it really wants to be with her loved one. I died yet again to hear the lyrics of this song..

Heaven Know (This Angel Has Flown) – Orange and Lemons

This is a song reminiscent of when I was in college! And even to this day, I still like to listen to it.

It’s called Heaven Knows (This Angel Has Flown) by Orange and Lemons.

Orange and Lemons have disbanded already but I was a fan when they were hitting the airwaves in the Philippines. I loved their style as they were not like the common popular bands at that time. Their music had the influence of Beatles and the bands from the 60’s. The first time I heard their song made me think twice if they were Filipino or not!! I think that’s why I liked them at that time. The words in their songs were also very deep and well thought of.

This is my favorite songs among all the songs they’ve released. I like it because of the melody, simple and subtle and sounds like a song you would hear from the 1960s. The words are nice and a little romantic. At that time, the clipping of the angels wings to make her mine made me swoon! ahahaha. The video though is simple, not really sure about the concept though… 🙂

Broken Sonnet – Hale

I went crazy over this group when I was in college.. OMG why do I feel it was such a long time ago!

This is Broken Sonnet by Hale.

This is Hale’s first single and it’s my favorite among all their songs (though some people would prefer “The Day You Said Goodnight”). I like this better than all the other songs because of it’s message and the last line (see the lyrics).

I remember being so crazy about this band! Back then I did not know what is Kpop and who the artists where. OPM rock bands ruled the Philippine music scene!! I saved up my allowance to buy Hale’s cd (and trust me it was quite expensive for a college student who mainly lived on her meager allowance!). I even saved money to watch them in a concert! kk sigh.. those were the days..

I wish OPM rock bands would emerge again and have good quality songs the way they did 4 or 5 years ago.

Muli – Bamboo

Here is another OPM track I want to share. It’s called Muli by Bamboo.

Bamboo is one of the many popular rock bands in the Philippines. But I especially like them because of their lyrics and how they sound. You know it’s their song when you hear one :). They are known for writing songs with a note about patriotism to the country.

This song tells about a person wanting to see his/her loved ones again. Muli means Again. The person says, there is nothing like his loved one and it would be nice to see and be with the other person again.  The song also sends out a message to all he has loved, both living and those who have gone to the after life, that until know you are in his heart.

It’s a kind of melodrama song, but i like it. The video is unique one also. It stars one of the teen idols from back in the 1990s (Gio Alvarez). I used to have a huge crush on him! kk The story in the video is nice if you know what I mean.

Jeepney Love Story – Yeng Constantino

Posting more OPM (Original Pilipino Music) on my blog! I want the world to know that OPM songs are nice too!!

Today, it’s Yeng Constantino‘s Jeepney Love Story.

In the Philippines, most people take the public transportation called the Jeepney. It works just like the a train where it has its routes and you have to get down one jeepney to ride on another to transfer. The song talks about a girl sitting next to a guy in the jeepney. She eventually likes him and says that she doesn’t want to get off the jeepney because that would end their love story. (Sorry about the video though, its from the official youtube of her record company thus you see something about the downloading part)

Yeng Constantino is kind of like the Taylor Swift of the Philippines. She has a really nice voice and her songs are self-composed. I have to say she is a gifted artist. She became popular in the business after she won a first prize in a talent show called Pinoy Dream Academy. She’s very popular in the Philippines and her songs are a hit! I absolutely love her songs! ^_^
