Recommended Drama – My Name Is Kim Sam Soon

If you are curious about watching a Korean drama but you don’t know which Korean drama to start off with, I would recommend you to watch My Name is Kim Sam Soon (내 이름은 김삼순).

The Story

Its a story about a girl, Kim Sam Soon, in her 30’s who has just been dumped by her boyfriend on Christmas Eve. She goes crying and eventually ends up in the men’s bathroom where she met her future boss, Hyun Jin Heon, the owner of Bon Apetit. Their first meeting is not a friendly one, but little did she know that she would be working for him as the pastry chef of his restaurant. Jin Heon’s mom is continuing to pester him about getting married so he contracted Sam Soon to be his girlfriend. Later on, they both develop feelings for one another, but things get complicated when Jin Heon’s ex-girlfriend came home. Will both Sam Soon and Jin Heon end up together?? Ok.. so I wrote this synopsis myself because I don’t want to spoil the fun of watching the drama 🙂 Although we do know what happens to most romcom (romantic comedy), let’s just pretend not to know!

The Actors…

Kim Sun Ah

This is probably the best role she has ever done! She’s very very convincing..

Hyun Bin

This drama was in 2005, thus this drama was way before Secret Garden.Though we all loved him in Secret Garden, he was pretty good here for a new actor.

Jung Ryeo Won

I super love this girl. She’s one of those who made a successful cross over from being in a girl group to being an actress, she is just absolutely talented! Though this is one of her early dramas. But if you watch most of her works now, you’d be really amazed by her — try watching My Girlfriend has Two Faces.

Daniel Henney

One word! HOT! ahaha I saw Daniel Henney for the first time after watching this drama and I never stopped adoring him! He is so handsome! kk ok… i’ll stop now before I start typing about how handsome he is.. but he is so handsome, isn’t he??

Why I Like It?

Honestly, this is not  the first drama that I have seen, but if I were to watch Kdrama’s all over again, I’d love to start with this. Most of the other dramas that I watched before this were all melodramas with a heavy theme. But this just hit the right spot, with me thinking at times “Why do you keep breaking my heart” or laughing like crazy. It was fun and light but with a story of its own. I guess that’s what I miss watching in romcoms. Some romcoms now just don’t have the flare of the old ones like Samsooni, Full House, Goong or Coffee Prince. To me they will always be classics.

As this drama was made in 2005, I love the fact that they made a story that many would realize and understand. In Korea its a big deal for a woman when they reach 30 and they’re not married or if they do not have a family. I am not Korean, but my Korean friends who are in their 30s have this dilemma. For most of us its just an age, but apparently there, women feel like they are old and there is that pressure to find your match before you get any older. Women also there feel that the older they are, the lesser will be the chance for them to get married. And if the pressure from the age is not enough, parents and relatives ask them when will they get married. My friend hates going to her hometown because of this pressure! To me, I think this drama made girls understand that women in their 30s still do have a chance and that they can still be beautiful!

Kim Sun Ah was at her best in this drama. She was very very effective as 30 year old chubby loveless girl. And what amazes me is that she had to put on some weight to play this girl. She’s a pro.  I have to say this is Kim Sun Ah’s drama and she will forever be remembered as Kim Sam Soon! Even now, when I see her, I always associate her as Samsooni! That’s how faboulous she is!

But if you watch this drama.. please remember that this was made in 2005, so it doesn’t have all the new gadgets and high fashion of the dramas now..

This drama also had one of the most unforgettable songs! It was this drama that made Clazziquai (Alex, Horan and Dj Clazzi) popular in the mainstream Kpop music. Here are 2 of the songs from the drama which you might have heard before.

Be My Love (first part) and She Is

Picture Spam! Don’t you just love this drama!

So if you’re looking for a good Kdrama to start  your Hallyu addiction, My Name is Kim Sam Soon will be a good one!

Junsu’s version of Hyun Bin’s That Man (Geu Namja)

OMG I can’t believe it! This is post 501… I’ve written and posted lots of entries to this blog after 2 years and a half. I know I don’t have too much time to post as much as I did in the first year I started this blog, but I still am hesitant to end and not post anything. I guess it has become a part of me.. But Kamsahamnida, Xie xie, Arigatou, Salamat, Thank you for to all who visited the blog! ^_^

For post 501, I thing its but fitting to make a post which has some connection to how I became addicted to Asian music… because of Dong Bang Shin Ki’s Xiah Junsu. (i think he is adorable… sigh!) — or should I say JYJ’s Junsu

I bet a lot of people have watched Secret Garden! It was a hit!! And I have to say it was a very unique story… and so maybe that’s why it’s a hit. Who would ever forget Hyun Bin‘s purple track suit!!! And who doesn’t love Gil Ra Im!!!

Also another popular thing we would not forget about Secret Gardens’ soundtrack! Especially the song That Man (Geu Namja). Even Hyun Bin has his own version of the song (the original one was sung by Baek Jiyoung).

Recently, JYJ’s Junsu did a cover of the That Man. And my god do I miss him singin ballads.

As always, his voice is really beautiful. I could not truly explain it! Hyun Bin’s version was also beautiful, but both their voices are very different so I can’t say which I like best. But one thing I do know is that I miss Junsu’s ballad songs! I wish he would sing more ballads especially OSTs I’m pretty sure it would really really sound awesome!

If only……

Hyun Bin’s Laneige Homme CF

I finally found some news about Hyun Bin!

I sooo love this guy eversince I saw him on My Name is Kim Sam Soon and A Millionaire’s First Love. I couldn’t help but post this! And I’m granting GG her wish too ^-^!

Hyun Bin is the new face of Laneige Homme (라네즈 옴므) particularly for the sunblock lotion. According to the article I read, this commercial was shot on the roof-top of a building in Gangnam, Seoul. The purpose is to show off Seoul’s cosmopolitan skyline.

I still can’t get over his new look on his Outback commercials. And now this! He looks sooo young with his short hair — and still handsome! ahahaha

Assorted CFs :D

I’m a little tired and bored.. (tinatamad akong magpost sa blog ko)

But I think I’ll be posting this.. since I might be busy sometime this week.

What I’m posting now is a video of assorted commercials that was posted by CodeAnalysis on youtube.

The following are featured in the commercial:

1. BBF Guys (minus Lee Min Ho) – i posted this before, this is the short version of Anycall Haptic Pop phone… Hyun Joong, Kim Bum and Kim Joon are soo cute here

2. Bae Yong-Joon –  I think this is for a toner or something. But he really looks handsome even to this day… cute smile as always

3. Big Bang – I’ve seen this commercial before, its for Hite Beer. Gotta love these guys… Gotta love Tae Yang! 😀

4. Hyun Bin – you have to watch this part carefully! see that guy in the middle, yes! that’s Hyun Bin! he looks a little different right? — much younger… ahahaha must be the hair! (I had to watch this part 2 times before I noticed that it was Hyun Bin!).. oh and you will be seeing another recognizable face — yes that’s the owner of the porridge shop from BBF

5. So Ji Sub – 2 commercials featuring this hunk.. i have to say he is getting cuter that ever! I did notice him in What happened in Bali but then again.. Jo In Sung was there… but he looked really kawaii in these CFs…

6. Yoon Eun-Hye – she still is soooo pretty! I miss Goong and Coffee Prince

Recommended Movie – A Millionaire’s First Love

If you haven’t noticed, I am addicted to DBSK. Try to check out the archives of the songs and lyrics that I’ve posted and you’ll see that I have posted a lot of their songs. I was listening to their songs one day when my playlist played Insa which was sung by Hero Jaejong for the movie A Millionaire’s first love. Because of that, I had an itch to watch the movie again. I did download the movie not long ago and I watched it again. Though I’ve watched this for the nth time (it’s one of my favorite korean movies), it still breaks my heart everytime I watch it.

Kang Jae-kyung is a typical spoiled rich kid; he’s arrogant, drives sporty cars, attends the big clubs, and rides through school corridors on his motorcycle. As his 18th birthday approaches, he’s set to inherit his grandfather’s fortune, a five star hotel. However, Jae-kyung must earn his fortune. His grandfather lays down an ultimatum; Jae-kyung is required to transfer to a new school in Gangwondo and graduate. Until then all access to his penthouse, cottage and credit cards are denied. Should he fail to graduate or drop out then he loses everything. With little choice he heads out to the countryside and a small town in which daily life is far removed from what he’s used to.

Shortly after settling into his new home he meets 19 year-old Choi Eun-whan, who just happened to run into him back in Seoul. They don’t exactly hit it off; he’s far too stubborn and cool for school, while she sees hope for him and sets out to make him see it for himself. As they eventually draw closer, thanks to a set of coincidences and school projects they learn more about one another, but soon a shattering revelation will change these people forever. (wikipedia)

The movie starred Hyun Bin (My Name is Kim Sam Soon, World that They Live in) and Lee Yoon Hee (East of Eden, One Fine Day).

Why I Liked the Movie?

This is not the first Korean movie that I saw. I’ve seen My Sassy Girl and the Classic before I watched it. I remember watching this movie on crunchyroll. I used to work in a contact center and since I had a night shift, I would usually be sitting infront of a PC when I got home so I can sleep and to make me sleepy I would watch movies. There were a lot of Asian movies to choose from but I decided to start with those which title begins with the letter A and this was the first on the list. This was probably the first Korean movie I saw with a sad ending (spoiler) and thus I remember crying during as I watched the movie. I couldn’t contain my emotions when I watched it. It was even a little embarrassing because my mom saw me crying. I think that’s why I like it so much, because this movie was the first Asian movie that made me cry.

Hyun Bin looked a little different in the movie, playing an 18 year old heir. This was one of his early movies. Though it may not be his best movie but he displayed that he can act in this movie. Lee Yoon Hee looked very charming in this movie — charming yet very sickly.

The soundtrack of the movie was a good one too. The songs make you sad. Insa (Greeting), which was sung by DBSK’s Hero Jaejoong, was very appropriate for the movie. The soft melody makes your heart break. I will be posting this song next!

Over-all, this is a very sad movie but it had the elements of a beautiful love story which you will remember.
