Meteor Garden 2018 – Interesting Bits from the Trailer

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted something. I’ve actually been itching to blog but I couldn’t find the right time and the right subject to write about. Today, I’m sitting here waiting for my friends to finish work when Youtube suggests the Meteor Garden 2018 trailer.

Perfect! Perfect subject – perfect time to write a blog post!

Before I continue talking about the (fairly) new trailer, I have to add a disclaimer that I have always been a fan of the Meteor Garden / Hana Yori Dango / Boys Over Flowers. Although Meteor Garden (Taiwan) was the first Asian drama that got me hooked, Hana Yori Dango (Japan) will always be my favorite version. Probably because it’s the closest adaptation to the manga (in my opinion). But because Meteor Garden (Taiwan) opened my eyes to a whole new world of Asian dramas – it will always hold a special place in my heart. (Not to mention Vic Zhou is still my ultimate Taiwanese actor crush! Zai zai ai ni <3! lol)

I’ve been anticipating the trailer of the new Meteor Garden drama since it was announced then Shen Yue (A Love So Beautiful) will play Shancai. I just finished watching A Love So Beautiful and I was quite impressed with her so I am quite pleased with the casting. When the trailer came out – my anticipation reached it’s peak!

Here’s why:

Original Soundtrack – Qing Fei De Yi (情非得已)

Hearing the original guitar rifts of the OST from the original Meteor Garden will sure bring back memories to those who’ve seen the original drama. I think it’s great strategy for them to use the original opening theme because it definitely brings nostalgia from the fans of the original drama. Makes them curious to watch the new drama.

That Volleyball Scene

Oh yes – there was a volleyball scene in the original drama. I still remember how cringe-worthy it was watching it but – hey 4 cute (handsome for some) guys playing volleyball in one scene is too much to handle for a teen watching the drama. But I am not sure if I find the new F4 cute – just not my type now (still rooting for Zai zai!)

Similarities with Hana Yori Dango

I’ve mentioned in the beginning of this blog that Hana Yori Dango is my favorite among all the adaptations. The trailer has snippets of scenes very reminiscent of the Japanese TV version – like Ski Resort scenes, the mansion looks similar with Domyouji’s mansion and the emphasis on Hua Ze Lei’s (Hanazawa Rui’s) violin playing skills. If I remember correctly, the original Taiwanese version had some changes in the story that made it different from the original manga. Although these were ok – I am still a gal who prefers faithful adaptations. I do hope that this version will stay true to the drama.

Adapting the Story for Millenials

The first Meteor Garden version was released in 2001. That was almost 20 years ago from today. Fashion, fads, language and culture has changed since then. Although Meteor Garden’s story can be retold a hundred times – the setting indeed has to be changed. I’m glad they’ve changed it to adapt to the new generation.

Location Location Location

Meteor Garden’s story involves bringing the cast to a different country. In the new trailer – I see that they went on 3 different locations – the Ski resort (it’s probably in another country), England (I see one scene where the English flag is flying) and Shanghai. We might be seeing more than just those 3 places. This production is indeed a big one!

This trailer makes me excited for the new reboot! However, I am not quite sure yet whether I would like the drama or not – because it will still be the same Meteor Garden story and because deep inside I will be comparing it to the older versions. But I do have faith in Shen Yue! Although Barbie Hsu Shancai was quirky and strong, I think Shen Yue’s Chen Xaioxi was more effective in A Love So Beautiful. As for the male leads – I am not as familiar with them so it’s difficult to give a commentary.

Are you excited for the Meteor Garden reboot? Comment below to let us know!

F4 (Jerry, Vic, Ken and Vanness) reunites for Chinese New Year

Xin Nian Kuai Le! Well actually that greeting came a bit late! Haha.. but I still wanted to say it! Happy Seollal!

I have been so excited for the past few weeks when I read that the original F4 (Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Ken Chu and Vanness Wu)  were reuniting for a show for Chinese New Year.

f4 reunion

I knew that the show was pre-recorded and I have seen some fancams already but I actually waited for the video of the broadcast to be available before making this post. And today, I finally found a video!

First Time 第一时间

I am not sure if a lot of the new Asian fans would recognize them, but to me they were the reason why I succumbed to the Asian invasion. Before them, I only knew of boy bands who were from Europe or North America. Didn’t really cared that much about Asian boys. Until there was F4!!!

I could still remember how crazy I was over them. Not only me, this craziness swept the Philippines and it opened doors to having more Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean dramas being show in the country. But they were always the first. They were the original Flower Boys! Before everyone knew Go Jun Pyo, everyone was talking about Dao Ming Si! Before Boys Over Flowers (Korean) and Hana Yori Dango (Japanese) there was Meteor Garden.

Now, as I see them together again, I can’t help grinning from ear to ear! OMG!!  I know they have become mature now (I don’t want to use old!!), but it doesn’t stop me from liking them still. I have honestly waited for this reunion to happen. I have read that they have wanted to have one for the last 3 years but because of their schedules, they couldn’t do it. But this year they did and thank heavens they did! And goodness me, they are still so handsome! Zai zai ai ni! (pardon this crazy fan!).

This really really made my day! Wish they would do something like this again!

Note: I have to say thanks to koalasplayground.com for posting this. My Chinese is not as good as my Korean so I couldn’t find the videos. To see the original post, please click here.

Happy Birthday Choi!

This is my birthday post for my friend Choi…

She is miles away and so that’s why I’m doing this post…

She may not have the same addiction that I have over Asian things.. but sometime awhile back she was looking forward to watching Meteor Garden. Whereas Joan and I liked Zai Zai, she was quite partial to Ken Zhu… so I’m trying to find the best Ken Zhu pics for her

Meteor Garden in Filipino

I mentioned in previous posts that the first drama that got me hooked on the Asian fever was Meteor Garden. The series was shown in by one of the local networks here in the Philippines and it was dubbed in Filipino. A cousin of mine was so crazy aout this series that she recorded it on her computer. I posted the videos in youtube about3 years ago (yes, I’m the same chipskjaa user on youtube! ahahaha). I’m posting the videos again here 😀 . Enjoy!

Qing Fei De Yi – Harlem Yu

I mentioned in mye previous blog that my asian addiction started with Meteor Garden. It was shown here in the Philippines 5 years ago. Although it was dubbed into Filipino, I was addicted to it. My cousins and I even recorded it on the computer. We has a TV tuner on the computer and a file which can record from the tv tuner. We recorded it straight from the tv… and we did it for both dramas, meteor garden 1 and 2.

I loved the OST of meteor garden (yes, even broken vow). But my favorite would have to be the beginning song of the first Meteor Garden. Qing Fei De Yi (by Harlem Yu) would have to be my favorite song from the soundtrack.

Video (with Enlish subs)

If you want to get the lyrics of the song you can google it and a lot of lyrics websites will appear. This however is my recommended website:

Qing Fei De Yi Lyrics

This sit has the lyrics written in Chinese and in Romanji . It also has the translation in English. Note however that the translation written in English is slightly different from what you see on the video above.  😀
