Introducing Lolita Girls

I first knew about Lolita girls when I saw Japanese movie called Kamikaze Girls. I was in university then, and there was a Japanese Film Festival. And thanks to that film, it opened my eyes to a different kind of fashion — very different because it’s not common especially where i live.

What is Lolita?

As shone above, a Lolita is a Japanese street fashion inspired primarily by the clothing and general aesthetics of the Rococo and Victorian periods. The Lolita look is primarily one of modesty with a focus on quality in both material and manufacture of garments. The silhouette is of a knee length skirt or dress with a ‘cupcake’ shape assisted by petticoats. Blouses, knee high socks or stockings and headdresses are also worn.

This style is very evident in Japan. If you watch anime videos, you would most likely notice a woman wearing heavy laced clothing, looking cutesy and all.  This style has since spread all over the world especially during cosplays. It’s one of the concepts most often used by Japanese otakus when they do cosplay.

There isn’t only one kind of Lolita, there are several kinds.

The Gothic Lolita – black is usually the theme

The Sweet Lolita – usually in pink or pastel colors

The Classic Lolita – classic 1800’s fashion inspired outfits, usually in darker colors

The Wa Lolita – uses traditional Japanese design, but with a twist of frills and lace

I think this fashion cute, however, I am not sure if I want to don this costume, much less go out in the park to play with my friends. I prefer to wear comfortable clothes, thank you.. But if I go to a cosplay party or to a masked ball, I think I would want a Wa Lolita dress. It’s design is old but it’s something I would wear.

But if I go to Japan, I would love to pose with these Lolita girls! I think this fashion is very unique and you need to have the guts to go out and show everyone you can carry this sort of fashion.

Fashion Trend – Korea’s Envelope Bag

As an activity, I asked one of my business students to make a presentation about Korean fashion (as it was her major). She readily obliged that request and made me see a little bit of Korean street fashion.

What made me interested was a the bag I saw… apparently its the new trend in Korea, the Envelope Clutch Bag.

My student left Korea two months ago but she has not seen this bag. It was only one month before that this bag has become a hit and the trend has spread among the young people, making it a must have for Korean street wear. (She said it was because one drama used it as an accessory, she couldn’t tell me what the drama was though).

I saw the exact same bag when I went on a trip to Singapore 2 weeks ago. I wanted to buy one because at that time I thought it would be a good place to put some of my documents and it looked fashionable. Little did I know that this was the current trend in Korea!  Sigh I should have trusted my instinct.. I should have bought one!

To others it may look like a typical envelope, but it comes in different colors and materials that goes well with your clothes. It’s amazing how they come up with something that’s so fashionable! Even men can use these bags and they still look good!!! I’m not an expert in fashion but this is one bag I want to have especially now because not everyone has it…

I wonder when it will be a big hit where I live?

I Am The Best – 2ne1

내가 제일 잘나가

내가 제일 잘나가

내가 제일 잘나가

Who doesn’t love this song!!! It debuted 2 weeks ago and since then it’s the song I keep repeating on my playlist! Saying “Naega Jeil Jalnaga” has been like a mantra for me. Keeps me inspired…

But But But, though I think their outfits (well some of them) were brilliant, some were way over the top and a little bit ridiculous. But it’s 2ne1 so they can carry that kind of fashion, but I just wish they would stop making the girls wearing too much of that weird kind of fashion. Loved the song, but the video, well I didn’t really like it because they are like telling people that it’s ok to break glasses and records just to prove their the best. And there are guns.. my god stop with the guns already. Why do their songs have to have guns..

Their live performance is a tamer version of the video and it’s worth watching.

Hope they can have other concepts besides guns next time

It’s Been a Long Time…

OMG I can’t believe I am blogging again. I haven’t blogged for so long now and it feels good to blog again.

I was really thinking of giving up this blog because I don’t have much time and because there are many kpop sources now so it’s not that hard to find the lyrics of songs or the latest Kpop news. But I couldn’t bear closing the blog. So I decided to keep it and post as much as I can. But as there are too many sources for Kpop now, I might need to do a little change with contents. Yes, there will still be something about Korea music and news, but I want my blog to have more than that.

I still love kpop but currently I am addicted to this song:

Jetlag – Simple Plan ft. Natasha Bedingfield

I have been a fan of Simple Plan for the longest time and I can’t believe Natasha Bedingfield is doing a punk rock song!

more posts to come!
